Obituary of James Wherry

Mr. James Irwin Wherry, Jr. age 89 a resident of Auburndale, Florida pssed away Monday, February 27, 2012 at Good Shepherd Hopsice Residential Center in Auburndale due to heart failure. Mr. Wherry was born October 19, 1922 in Warren, Ohio to J. Irwin and Goldie (Ritchie) Wherry. Jim and his family moved to Orlando in 1928, then to Auburnale in 1933. He graduated from Auburndale High School. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1949 with a degree in Business Administration. He retired as Executive Vice President of Comcar Industries in 1987. Jim seved his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II (1943-1945), as a Radar Operator on a B-29 based on Tinian Island, flying 31 bombing missions to Japan. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, five Air Medals and numerous Combat Medals. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Auburnale since 1934. He also served in the church as an Elder, Deacon, Trustee and Treasurer.
