Obituary of Gladys Shumate

Mrs. Barbara Shumate, age 79 of Auburndale passed away Monday, July 8, 2013 due to heart failure. Mrs. Shumate was born in Cottonwood, Al. and had lived in this area for the past 70 years. She was a retired records clerk for the Polk County Sheriff's Dept. and a member of Legacy Community Church in Auburndale. Mrs. Shumate enjoyed spending time with her family, volunteering at Auburndale Oaks, cooking , sewing and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Shumate. Survivors include daughters, Karen Merritt and Denise Helms, both of Auburndale, 4 grandchildren, Jessica (Andy) Brown, Jordan (Ashley) Helms, Heath Merritt & Jason (Natalie) Merritt and 13 great grandchildren.
