Obituary of Thomas Lewis Meeks

Mr. Thomas Lewis Meeks, age 77 went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 3, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Tom was born August 4, 1936 in Bartow, Florida to Herbert Arnold and Alice Ruth (Simpson) Meeks. Tom was a Green Pond resident since 1983 moving from Bartow. He graduated from Auburndale High School class of 1954, graduated in 1958 from Florida Southern College with a Bachelor of Science degree and also graduated in 1968 from the University of South Florida with a Master of Arts. Tom was a teacher at Auburndale Elementary, a math teacher at Auburndale Junior. High, a Guidance Counselor for Auburndale Junior High and Bartow Junior High and then became the Principal at Lewis Elementary for 3 years and retired after 10 years as Principal at Bartow Elementary. After retirement Tom spent 25 years as a gentleman farmer and cowboy. Tom was a member, deacon and longtime Sunday school teacher at Green Pond Baptist Church in Polk City. Tom loved his family and loved his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. He enjoyed hunting & fishing. He was preceded In death by his parents and brother Henry Herbert Meeks. Tom is survived by: wife of 55 years: Sharon Pearl Kenyon Meeks of Green Pond, 2 sons: Mark (Carla) Meeks of Bartow, Sanford (Allyson) Meeks of Orlando, daughter: Marilyn (Gerry) Hunt of Lakeland, brother: Richard Meeks of Sarasota, sister: Kathryn (Desmond) Finn of Lakeland, 8 grandchildren: Julia, Lenton, Tiffany, Matthew, Alton, Katelyn, Colby & Dylan, 2 great granddaughters: Madison & Kelsey. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Mr. Meeks' name to: Green Pond Baptist Church.
