Obituary of Derrick D. Smith

Mr. Derrick D. Smith, AKA "Big D", age 34 of Polk City passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 in Groveland due to heart failure while on his last big wild boar catch. Derrick was born in Winter Haven, Florida to Rex and Debbie Smith and was co-owner of Smith Water Conditioning of Auburndale. Derrick was a graduate of Lake Alfred Career Development Center, a licensed State Trapper and a partner with his father and grandfather in the S & S Cattle Company. He loved hunting and fishing and was a loving son, a caring brother, and known as Awesome Big D to his nieces and nephew and he was a great friend to many. Derrick was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Smith and uncle Durand Smith. He is survived by his parents, Rex & Debbie Smith of Auburndale, his brother, Dustin (Misty) Smith of Auburndale, his sister, Jenny (Larry) Causey of Mooreville, Ms., his paternal grandmother, Frances Smith and his maternal grandparents, Art Sanders Jr. and Patricia Cabiness, and uncles, Brian, Bobby and Ken Smith and aunts, Marilyn Greenman and DeDe Jones.
