Obituary of Gladys Whitener

Mrs. Gladys Coleman Whitener, age 88 a resident of Lakeland, passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 with family by her side at the Manor at Carpenters in Lakeland due to natural causes. Mrs. Whitener was born August 4, 1926 in Lake City, Florida to Barney and Laura Dell (Brown) Coleman. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Polk City. She and her husband O.M. were married on December 30, 1944 and enjoyed a blessed 69 years together. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband - Captain Orville Milan "O.M." Whitener and 2 sons - Harley Milan & Dudley Michael. Gladys is survived by her loving and devoted family; 2 Grandsons: Stephen & Jeffrey 3 Granddaughters: Dorsey Jean Olson, Hillary Milan Ring & Mary Beth Moore Several Great Grandchildren She also leaves behind many extended family, dear friends and wonderful caregivers. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Kersey Funeral Home, 108 E. Lake Stella Dr., Auburndale. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Ft. Meade. Visitation will be held before from 2:30 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
