Obituary of Marjorie Julia Judy

Marjorie Voyles Judy passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015, at home in Polk City, FL. Marjorie was born in Polk City, December 16, 1926, at her home place. She was a lifelong resident of Polk City, attended Polk City Elementary and Auburndale High School, graduating with the class of 1943. She graduated from Tampa Business College in Tampa, FL, and worked as secretary for Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company until December, 1946. February, 1947, she served as a part-time Postal Clerk at the United States Postal Service post office in Polk City, Florida. August 18, 1961, she was appointed Acting Postmaster by Postmaster General J. Edward Day. July 16, 1962, she was confirmed by President John F. Kennedy as Postmaster. She was a member of the National Association of Postmasters (NAPUS) and held numerous elective offices at the Tampa District, State of Florida and national level. She was named Postmaster of the year for District in 1974, 1977, 1979 and 1980. She attended 25 consecutive NAPUS National Conventions, visiting different cities throughout the U.S. including Puerto Rico. She retired from the postal service August 27, 1989. Ms. Judy was a faithful and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church, Polk City, where she served as pianist, organist, clerk, Women's Missionary Union President, and 35 years as Church Treasurer. Ms. Judy was preceded in death by her father Reverend George Coin Voyles, mother, Rena Bryant Voyles, husband, Edward Judy, son, Frank Anderson Judy, Sr., grandson, Frank Anderson Judy, Jr., brother, Herman Ray Voyles, and sister, Ruby Lee Caldwell. Ms. Judy is survived by her daughter, Susan Ann Swanson (Chris) of Polk City, son George Edward Judy (Kathy) of Baton Rouge, LA, grandsons Mark Pate, Nicholas Judy, Ethan Judy, granddaughters, Jessica Kirby Suzanne Rayborn, three great grandchildren, Megan Tyler, Jonathan Hansen, Madison Judy and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Polk City Building Program.
