Many of us have memories of Coach Bammer's sense of humor. I also recall a day so many years ago when he offered me sage advice. I agree that our world is a little smaller, but so many lives were changed by Coach. That blessing must be celebrated. Linda Nail Summers

If you are lucky in life, you had someone named "Coach" as inspiration. Coach Bammer was such a Man, who carried the title with grace. And, if someone asked me what memories were associated with him, three objects come to mind: a Ford Pinto, a brass key and a chalk eraser.
In the Seventies, Coach Bammer could be seen going to and from AHS in the brown Ford Pinto. During football season, the return trip would test the weight limit on the compact car. He would take it upon himself to drive home with as many AHS football players, who were usually lineman that could fit inside. Looking back, it must have looked like a Circus clown car or some world record breaking attempt to see how many football player can fit into the Pinto. He repeated this commute each weekday with football players, who were grateful for their ride home. Next, the image of memorial is the brass key. Coach Bammer would use of the key to "hammer home" a point and get the linemen's attention after mistakes or blown plays. A coin was used sometimes but he still called it the "key of knowledge". The rapid raps on one's helmet would be followed by his addictive laugh and roar. The last object is the chalk eraser. All who attended his classes knew NOT to fall asleep or fail to pay attention in his classes. Not only was the dosing student fair game to their fellow students, they were a target for a chalk eraser. The result would be students with chalk imprints walking the hallways, evidence of their attendance of Coach Bammer's history class. The Coach had a gift of bestowing nicknames on all. These titles would stick and provide a laugh or two during the long school day.
With his departure, the World is a smaller place. We offer our condolences to the Bammer Family. I am thankful for knowing him.
Larry and Marietta Brooks.

I had the privilege and pleasure to serve in Coach Bammer's history class as a Teacher's aide my senior year and also lucky enough to have him as my history teacher my junior year. This man was more than a teacher, he was special to everyone he met. I loved being able to get to know him and some of my fondest memories during high school involve his jokes and laughter. He was a gift. Prayers for the family, friends, and fellow Bloodhounds.

Mr. Bammer was truly "one of a kind". Although History, was never my favorite subject, he made class fun and bearable with his awesome and very unique personality. The stories he told us and the songs he sang to us still bring a smile to my face nearly 30 years later. I am so blessed to have known you and was ecstatic when you showed up to visit me at my job a few years ago. Heaven has certainly received a "very special" angel with you. God Bless you Sweet Man! ?, Ezell the Weasel

Mr. Bammer was not only my favorite teacher he was my children's favorite. He made everyone feel special with nick names. Later after Jim I were married he became a friend and supported our business buying flooring from us and bringing in friends, always helping his friends and former students. Some of the girls from our class started girls week end about 15 years ago and had several slumber party's and had Mr. workman, coach Capman, Helen Mulling and Bill Bammer come on Friday night and share a lot of games, laughs, and stories, he was always so kind! Will miss Bill Bammer and his wonderful smile and chuckle! Jim & Sandy

Not sure who "William Bammer" is but Coach Bammer was an amazing man. Coach Bammer would fill a room with his smile and his laugh. Coach never called me anything except Sonja Baby...no clue why...that was my name from the first moment we met!
Coach Bammer taught three generations of, according to him, "Howell women" my mom;Marilyn Howell Dickson; me; Sonjalyn Dickson Rine; and my daughter, Gloria Hunter Motta...I adored Coach Bammer. He was one of the good guys!!!
Love you,
"Sonja Baby"
