Obituary of Leslie David Stokes

Mr. Leslie D. Stokes, age 86 a resident of Auburndale passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Winter Haven Hospital. Mr. Stokes was born January 3, 1930 in Highland Home, Alabama to Charlie Clifton and Annie Jane (Davis) Stokes. He came to Auburndale with his family in the 1940's from Alabama. Leslie honorably served his country for 20 years, this included tours during the Korean War and Vietnam as well as being stationed in Alabama, California, Georgia, Hawaii, France, Germany and Newfoundland Canada (where he met his beloved wife Mary). After his retirement from the Army he was employed at Minute Maid Foods as a plant manager and later at the University of Florida Experiment Station in Lake Alfred where he was a grove technician. Lesile attended with his wife St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winter Haven and was a lifelong hunting & fishing enthusiast. He also enjoyed playing cards and being with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife - Mary Ann Stokes; son - Kevin D. Stokes; 4 sisters - Ramona Louise Mills, Evelyn Waters, Jewell Stokes and Frances Stokes; granddaughter - Alicia Stokes. Leslie is survived by his loving family; 3 Sons: Charles J. (Mary) Stokes of Lakeland,L eslie G. Stokes of Auburndale, David H. Stokes of Auburndale,2 Daughters: Madonna M. (Charles) Peace of Lakeland, Patricia A. (Michael) Mills of Auburndale, Brother: Billy (Pat) Stokes of Polk City, Sister: Marie (Mickey) Burgess of Yankee Town, FL.,5 Grandchildren:,Lesley Ann (Willis) Cardo, Christopher (Sarah) Stokes, David Stokes, Christina Stokes, Justin Mills 2 Great Grandchildren: Kelly & Madison.
