Obituary of Sarah Hilah Read

Sarah Hilah Falkener Read, 90, of Auburndale, FL., formerly of Warrenton, died Monday, July 4, at her daughter's home in Winter Haven, FL. Mrs. Read was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Warrenton to William Keppel and Sarah Hilah (Tarwater) Falkener. She was a Polk County resident for over 60 years coming from N.C. She graduated from the Woman's College University of N.C. at Greensboro in 1945. The commencement speaker was Eleanor Roosevelt. She worked for Minute Maid Corp of Auburndale and retired from State Farm, Regional Office in Winter Haven. Sarah was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Auburndale, where she volunteered in the church office and food pantry. She was a kind, generous person who loved animals and was grateful for her friends and family. She was preceded in death by her Son, Hugh McIlwaine Read and her Brother-in-law, Henry McIlwaine Read, Sr. Mrs. Read is survived by her loving Family: Daughters, Sarah Hilah Read Mercer (Bill) of Merritt Island, Fla., and Georgie Gayle Read of Winter Haven, Fla.; Granddaughters, Molly Sarah Hilah McCabe of Alexandra, Va., Anna Gayle Law (Joni) of Atlanta, Ga. and Sarah Frances Read of Brooks, Ga.; Great-Grandchildren, Cora, Isaac and Andi; Sister-in-Law, Frances Read of Raleigh; Brother-in-law, Finley Read (Ruth) of Lumberton. There will be a private inurnment in Warrenton, NC at a later date.
