Obituary of Franklin Cardwell

Mr. Franklin Lane ?Frank? Cardwell, 83 passed away at his Auburndale home on Saturday, June 20, 2009 due to heart failure. Born June 11, 1926 in Newhall, West Virginia to Rufus and Lena (Burnette) Cardwell, Frank spent his childhood in the small West Virginia coal mining town, and graduated from Big Creek High School, receiving its notoriety from the ?Rocket Boys?. He moved to Miami, Florida in 1948, where he attended the University of Miami and Embry Riddle School of Aviation. In 1948 he began his career in Aviation with National Airlines, later known as Pan American, leading him to become a Check Flight Engineer, traveling throughout the world. Frank was noted for his professionalism and knowledge and was known for his genuinely caring nature. He retired from Pan American Airlines in 1986, and moved to Auburndale with his wife. A man of many interests, Frank enjoyed boating, spear fishing, water and snow skiing, playing bridge and traveling. But most of all, hw enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Daniel and James Cardwell. Frank is survived by his loving family: Wife of 58 years, Joan Cardwell; 1 Son: F. Lane (Pam) Cardwell of Denver, Co. ; 2 Daughters: Anne (Andrew) Lamb of Orange Park, Fl., Carol (George) Boser of Orlando, Fl., 1 Sister, Geneva Ball of Tazwell, VA., 6 Grandchildren; Kyle (Nicole) Cardwell of Dallas, TX., Craig Cardwell of Dallas, TX., Drew Lamb of Orange Park, FL., Daniel Lamb of Orange Park, FL., Michael Lamb of Orange Park, FL., Richard Lamb of Orange Park, FL., 1 Great Granddaughter, Caroline Cardwell of Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers the family requests those so desiring to make donations to the First United Methodist Church (Building Fund) 406 Lake Ariana Boulevard, Auburndale, FL. 33823. Visitation will held Tuesday, June 23, 2009 from 6:00 ? 8:00 PM at Kersey Funeral Home and Funeral Services Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at 10:00AM at the First United Methodist Church of Auburndale, with interment to follow at Auburndale Memorial Park.
