Obituary of Wilma Strickland

AUBURNDALE - Mrs. Wilma D. Strickland, age 89, a resident of Auburndale passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Consulate Healthcare of Winter Haven due to heart failure. Mrs. Strickland was born December 27, 1920 in Stanwood, MI. to Harry & Charlotte (Huffman) DeMott. She was an Auburndale resident since the 1950's coming from Ft. Meade. She was a homemaker, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Auburndale and was a U.S. Navy nurse during WWII. She was in the Old Timer's Coffee Club and she was a Pink Lady at Morrow Hospital which later became Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Dr. Robert "Bob" Strickland. Wilma is survived by: 3 sons: Dee (Molly) Strickland of St. Petersburg, FL, Dale (Marsha) Strickland of Auburndale, FL, Dennis (Shannon) Strickland of Jupiter, FL; 3 brothers: Bill DeMott, Johnny DeMott, Doug DeMott, 2 sisters: Arvilla Pontius, Donna Stine, all of MI; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations in Mrs. Strickland's name can be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 636, Auburndale, FL. 33823. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, 316 Lake Ariana Blvd., Auburndale. Interment will follow at the Auburndale Memorial Park.
