Obituary of Mattie Hughes

LAKE WALES - Mrs. Mattie Louise Hughes, age 89, a resident of Polk County, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 at her daughter's residence due to heart failure. Mrs. Hughes was born March 3, 1921, in Lyons, Georgia to Zet and Emma (Oneal) Mincey. She moved to Lake Wales from Auburndale in 1987 and retired from W.G. Rowe Packing House. She was a member of Berea Baptist Church in Auburndale. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband M.C. Hughes; 2 sons: Billy & Roy Hughes; 3 brothers and 1 sister. Mattie is survived by 5 daughters: Shirley Cooprider of Hazelhurst, GA, Mattie Green of Lake Wales, Vernell (Dean) Fleming of Polk City, Debbie (Jeff) Sheffield of Palmetto, FL, Kathy (Freddie) Senterfitt of Lake Wales; 1 brother Albert (Mildred) Mincey of Auburndale; 1 sister Nellie Nells of Baxley, GA; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 at the Berea Baptist Church, 1407 Highway 92 West, Auburndale. Interment will follow at the Auburndale Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kersey Funeral Home, 108 E. Lake Stella Dr, Auburndale.
