Obituary of Ruth Overwyk

Ms. Ruth Overwyk, age 99, resident of Winter Haven, passed away 3/11/2011, of natural causes. Ruth was born 04/22/1911 in Woodcliff, NJ., to Benjamin Harrison & Rebecca Jane Graham Winfield. She was a graduate of Rutgers University in new Brunswick, NJ., in 1933, worked as an entertainer during the 1940?s and 50?s, performing in many theatres in New York and New Jersey, then retired after a long career teaching both Latin and French. Ruth helped organize and direct a chorus at Spring Haven Retirement Community in 1990 and then the Lake Howard Heights chorus in 1993. Ms. Overwyk was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband, Wesley Dickens, 2nd husband, Michael Overwyk, Sr. and a sister, Helen Winfield. Survivors include: 1 son, Winfield Dickens Sr. of Auburndale, FL., 1 sister, Frances Winfield of Navesink, NJ. 2 grandchildren, Winfield Dickens Jr. and Margaret Chain, 1 great grandchild. Step children, Ann Stechen of Las Vegas, NV., Michael Overwyk Jr., of NJ and Janice McKindly of IL. The funeral service will be held 3/16/2011 at Kersey Funeral Home, at 11:00 AM, with the visitation 10:00 ? 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral service.
