Obituary of Allen Walker

AUBURNDALE - Mr. Allan "Gene" Walker, age 64, a lifetime Auburndale resident, was called back on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 from Auburndale Oaks Health Care Center due to complications of Alzheimer's. Gene was born January 14, 1947 at the Morrell Memorial Hospital in Lakeland (now known as Lakeland Regional Medical Center) to Grady L. and Annie B. (Cameron) Walker. Gene was a client at the Sheltered Workshop in Lakeland from Sept. 4, 1962 until Jan. 9, 2009. He participated in Special Olympics for many years; (bowling, tennis and running the mile in competition for 10 years). He enjoyed being a Special Olympian very much and especially loved the Special Olympic Oath...LET ME WIN, BUT IF I CANNOT WIN, LET ME BE BRAVE IN THE ATTEMPT. Gene Walker, a Special Olympian with a brave heart, has gone home. Gene is survived by his loving and devoted parents: Grady & Ann Walker of Auburndale, FL. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, Oct. 3, 2011 at the Kersey Funeral Home, 108 E. Lake Stella Drive, Auburndale. Interment will follow at the Auburndale Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011 from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
