Obituary of Melba Jones

AUBURNDALE - Mrs. Melba Lennie Perdue Jones, age 91, passed away from natural causes at her home on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 with her family by her side. Mrs. Jones was born November 23, 1919 in Crane Hill, Alabama to Harvey and Lila (Calvert) Perdue. Melba moved to Auburndale from Cullman, Alabama in 1956 with her husband Dennis and their two daughters. She retired from Adams Packing in 1982 after 28 years of service. she was a member of Polk City Church of Christ, but her greatest job in life was serving God and being with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and the outdoors. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 63 years, Dennis Russell Jones; and grandson Michael Johnson in 1998. Melba is survived by her loving and devoted family: 2 daughters: Hildreth (Buddy) Johnson of Chiefland, FL, Delila (Jerry) Smith of Auburndale, FL; 3 grandchildren: Jerry (Nicole) Smith, Jr, of Winter Haven, Karen (Randy) Rutter of Trenton, FL, Billy Smith of Seattle, WA; granddaughter in law Denise Johnson of Lakeland; 10 great grandchildren: Serene (Jamie) Lewis, Jerri May (Michael) Emerick, Carlee Johnson, Cameron Rutter (Amanda), Caleb Johnson, Mikeah Rutter, Britteny Pearn, Garrett Pearn, Lacey Pearn & Manny Peraza; 3 great great grandchildren: Gavin Lewis, Mark Emerick & Joscelyn Lewis; caregivers Joyce Peraza & Robbie Price. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Kersey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Auburndale Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 from 6:00 till 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
