Obituary of Arlo Crowell

POLK CITY - Mr. Arlo Blaine Crowell, 97 of Polk City passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 in Polk City due to natural causes. Mr. Crowell was born in Pleasant Lake, IN to Jack and Cora Wright Crowell. He married Margaret Fleming Goodwin on April 2, 1938 in Allegan, MI and they were married 66 years at the time of her death on March 1, 2004. Their children include Alfred Crowell (Jane) of Polk City, Corlotta Crowell of Port Charlotte, Nancy Owens (Nicholas) of North Port, William (deceased) (Debby) of Mount Morris, IL, Catherine Crowell of Mulina, OR and Jeanette Crowell of Oregon, IL. There are 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Mr. Crowell remarried on November 20, 2004 to Cecilia Engler in Polk City. Stepchildren include Dolores Mendez of Houston, TX, Nicholas Hernandez (Barbara) of Waller, TX, Caroline Hanvy (Michael) of Polk City and Diana Moore of Sanford. There are 10 step grandchildren and 20 great step grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Annabelle Samuelson of Allegan, MI, and Naomi Northington of Lakeland. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elton Crowell. Mr. Crowell was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church and had been a very active member of First Baptist Church of Polk City Florida since 1979. At his death he was Deacon Emeritus. Prior to his retirement in 1979 Arlo was a self-taught mechanical engineer. He also had an avocation of rehabilitating homes and making them available at reduced cost. He was a "Jack of all trades" who was always ready and willing to lend his skills to others, and he never wanted to be thanked. He was a righteous man who was deeply beloved by all who were privileged to know him. The funeral service for Mr. Crowell will take place Tuesday at 11 AM at The First Baptist Church of Polk City with visitation Monday from 6 until 8 PM at the Kersey Funeral Home, Auburndale. Those so desiring may make memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church of Polk City building fund.
