Obituary of Marie Gertrude Wnek

Mrs. Marie Gertrude Wnek, age 91, a resident of Lakeland, Florida went to Heaven on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at her home surrounded by family & friends. Mrs. Wnek was born October 14, 1932 in Meriden, Connecticut to Simon Albert and Lillian Mabel (Rice) Rule. Marie was a Polk County resident since 2003 coming from Arizona and a retired Office Manager for Microelectronics Companies (Sanders Associates & Motorola). She and her late husband Roman traveled while he was in the Army (Germany and many of the United States) when stationed in Germany when their children were young she would pack them up to go camping for the summer in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and others. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Auburndale. Marie volunteered for different political candidates (most notably Ross Perot), enjoyed dancing, going to church, singing karaoke with friends on Friday nights at Schalamar Creek Golf & Country Club and loved to spend time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband Roman Henry Wnek; son – Roman Henry Wnek, II; 7 brothers and 1 sister. Marie is survived by her loving & devoted family, son – Michael Wnek and wife Peggy of Auburndale, Florida; daughter – Anne Marie McGuigan of Salt Lake City, Utah; 9 grandchildren – Amber, Autumn, Aubrey, Roman III, David, Annalisa (Ray), Sean (Kristin), Jason (Nadia) and Rachel (Kyle); 9 great grandchildren – Skylar, Hayden, Kapriel, Brenya, Leo, Brooklyn, Londyn, Asher and Layla. A celebration of Marie’s life will be held 4pm  Friday, April 12th at the Schalamar Creek Golf & Country Club Ballroom. Inurnment will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell date to be announced.
