Obituary of David Franklin Shields
David Franklin Shields, age 71 and a resident of Auburndale, Florida, passed away Friday, August 25, 2023 in Georgia surrounded by his friends at their hunting camp. David was born February 24, 1952 in Lake Wales, Florida to Albert Francis and Dorothy Jean (Fraiser) Daniel. He was a resident of Auburndale since 2014 after living in South Korea for 24 years. David was a retired United States Marine & Army Veteran after 40 years of combined active duty and civil service. He served in the United States, South Korea, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Germany, and many other countries as a Cobra Attack Helicopter Pilot and an Apache Helicopter Program Manager. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, anything outdoors and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his father and daughter – Kimberly. David is survived by his loving family, wife of 17 years – Wallapa Shields of Auburndale, FL.; 2 sons – James (Gabi) Shields of California and Wasan (Dulce) Jaroenwai of Auburndale, FL; 4 daughters – Jira (Steve) Shields-Williams of Washington, Becky (Chrissy) Shields of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Lori (Cristina) Shields of Tampa, FL, and Athitaya (Isaiah) Jaroenwai serving in Massachusetts; mother – Dorothy Daniel of Riverview, FL; 2 brothers – Albert “Ricky” (Robin) Shields of Mexico and Billy (Gail) Shields of Alabama; 3 sisters – Sylvia (William) McPherson of Riverview, FL, Frances Warren of Winter Haven, FL. and Lola Mayes of Jacksonville, FL, 12 grandchildren – Anariyah, Nathaniel, Jameson, Jason, JD, Jayla, Michael, Matthew, Levi, Christian, Chelsea and PJ; 1 great granddaughter – Myla. A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, September 16th at Kersey Funeral Home with Military Honors.
