Obituary of Betty Rose Crews

Betty Rose Bishop Crews entered into the presence of the Lord on Monday, August 7, 2023. She was 96 years old. Betty was born on February 22, 1927 in Auburndale, Florida. Her parents were Edward Rose Bishop, born in Massachusetts, and Christine MacDonald Bishop, from Prince Edward Island, Canada. With the exception of two years at Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee (now FSU), she lived her entire life in Auburndale. In 1948 she married James Turner Crews and they raised three daughters, Ann, Jane, and Cathy. Betty and Jim were long-time members of First Baptist Church, Auburndale. She worked as a kindergarten teacher and then as a teacher aide at Central Elementary and Bridgers Avenue Elementary for many years. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteer work at Central Elementary, Winter Haven Hospital, and Meals on Wheels. She had many dear friends, loved being with her family, and enjoyed traveling and tending to her yard. She loved Auburndale and was proud to call it home. She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, Jim, her sister, Barbara Killebrew Brown, and her nephew, Burt Killebrew.  She is survived by her daughters, Ann (John) Vassiliou, Longwood; Jane (Richard) Joyce, Lakeland; and Cathy (Wes) Salley, DeBary; one grandson, Jim Salley, one great grandson, Erik Salley, her nephew Sam (Eileen) Killebrew, her niece, Judi Killebrew, and great nieces and nephews. Our gratitude to these friends who were such a help to her in her later years: Becky Spann, Jan Syvertsen, Janet Singleton, Bill Stambaugh, Sandra Deck, Larry Linton and the Lake Wales guys, and Becky Rhodes. Memorials may be sent to Slavic Gospel Association, 6151 Commonwealth Drive, Loves Park, IL 61111, www.sga.orgFuneral Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, August 19th at Kersey Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Auburndale Memorial Park. A verse that was a comfort to Betty Rose was Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.
