Vernon was a wonderful man. I had the pleasure of knowing Vernon for 40 years. His retail IQ was off the chart. He loved his family, as he talked of them often. He also liked to talk about cooking holiday meals; he really enjoyed that. And we really enjoyed walking the aisles of his stores and talking about all the stories we experienced over the years. He will be missed, but the Lord has called him home. RIP MY DEAR FRIEND.

To the Chastain family, thank you for sharing him with us,store 2495, we were talking a few months ago and I was saying we have our families and then we have our work family because we spend so much time there and as one of our employees calls him papa bear because he was there for so many of us, and cared not only for the store but for all of us as well, going to truly miss him. To the family of Vernon, my warmest thoughts and truest condolences. I had the distinct honor and pleasure of knowing and working with Vernon for many years at Kash n’ Karry; in particular, in Kissimmee (Store 701) where Vernon was Asst Mgr and I was 3rd Mgr, and while he and I were neighboring Store Managers/Directors in Lake Wales (Store 889) and Haines City (Store 895). Vernon, by all accounts, by all who knew him, was a gentlemen, highly professional and of the absolute best work ethic. I (as have countless others), learned more about Kash n’ Karry Store Operations, from Vernon, than anyone else I met during my 10 years at Kash n’ Karry. Not only was he a wonderful teacher and leader who made work fun, he was a great friend. Vernon, Thank you for all of the great times and great memories.
