Obituary of Thomas Lafayette Owen, Jr.

Mr. Thomas Lafayette Owen, Jr. age 77, a resident of Auburndale, Florida passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center surrounded by family. Mr. Owen was born August 21, 1946 in Bay Minette, Alabama to Thomas Lafayette and Sadie Mae (Smith) Owen, Sr. He was a Polk County, Florida resident for 60 years coming from Mobile, Alabama.  Tom attended Southeastern University and graduated from Rollins College with a Master’s Degree in Mathematics. He taught Math for 30+ years & coached football at Northeast Junior High School in Winter Haven and also taught at Polk Community College in Winter Haven. He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church, where he volunteered with the youth (Royal Rangers) on many camping trips and served on the Church’s Trustee’s Board. Tom enjoyed fishing, sports and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Tom is survived by his loving family, wife of 57 years – Audree Owen of Auburndale, Florida; son – Richard (and Megan) Owen of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister – Jean (Thomas) Reeves of South Carolina; sister-in-law - Cindy (Jack) Jackson of Lakeland; 4 grandchildren – Ellen, Richard, Calvin & Thomas and 1 great granddaughter – Mary. The are are no services scheduled for Mr. Owen.
