Obituary of Marvin M Mercer

Mr. Marvin M. Mercer, age 99, a resident of Auburndale, Florida passed away Friday, December 2, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Mercer was born November 20, 1923 in Gordon, Alabama to Marion and Willie May (Jordan) Mercer. He was a resident of Auburndale since 1955 coming from Alabama where he helped his father in their family’s 160 acre farm, plowing, cultivating, planting and the harvesting of cotton, corn, peanuts, peas, hay and vegetables.  He was a member of Heaven Bound Free Will Baptist Church in Lakeland. Mr. Mercer retired from Citrus Industry as a Fork Life Driver working for several companies (Adams Packing, Coca Cola & Minute Maid). He was a United States Army Veteran serving in World War II where some of his duties were with Company “D” 345^th Engineers Naples, Italy (operated & maintained firefighting equipment, rescued people, recovered items during a fire,  chemical sprayer for petroleum fires and applied first-aid treatment). He enjoyed sitting in the swing on his front porch, working outside, piddling, using duct tape, Friday & Saturday night clogging, dancing, spending 23 summers in North Carolina with his wife escaping the heat in Florida and loved just spending time with family.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother – Harold Mercer and 4 sisters – Katie Neil Guy, Ruth Sheffield, Helen Riddley & Marie Hopkins. Mr. Mercer is survived by his loving & devoted family, wife of 75 years – Eunice Mercer of Auburndale, Florida; 2 daughters – Sharon (Wayne) Waggoner of Kentucky and Teresa (Ted) Bruner of Bascom, Florida; sister – Syble Guy of Troy, Alabama; 4 grandchildren – Eric (Michelle) Lynn of Colorado, Erin (Tom) Schuette of Georgia, Travis (Deanne) Bruner of Bascom, Florida and Timothy Bruner of Panama City, Florida; 9 great grandchildren – Shelby, Levi, Cody, Clayton, Sylvan, Emma, Brooke, Kaleigh and Allie; 1 great great granddaughter – Presley. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, December 6^th at Kersey Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10am at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at Auburndale Memorial Park.
