Obituary of Edwena Louise Hobbs

Edwena Louise Hobbs, age 87, a loving wife, caring mother, doting grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2022, in Winter Haven surrounded by her immediate family.  She was born May 3, 1935, near Plant City, Florida and was a lifelong resident of Plant City, Lakeland and Auburndale.  She was preceded in passing by her parents Samson and Verna Carter, her brother Robert Carter and her husband Mason Hobbs. Edwena is survived by her daughter Sharon Buss and son Dennis Hobbs, grandchildren Carrie, Philip, Christina, Jay, Maria and Alan and her great-grandchildren Bryson, Aiden, Kinsley, Parker, Brentley, Bryleigh, Brexton, Anthony and Evelyn.  She will be greatly missed by their families.  She was raised on a family farm growing strawberries and other crops for sale, and she thoroughly enjoyed gardening for the rest of her life.  Edwena appreciated music and was accomplished at playing the clarinet, accordion, organ and piano.  For several years she was organist for the worship ministry at The Church of God in Plant City.  In later years, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the delight of her life, and she also enjoyed traveling with her reliable husband.  Her generous spirit and compassion for others was a blessing to all who knew her, especially those fortunate to experience her southern hospitality.  A brief service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Kersey Funeral Home in Auburndale, Florida.  In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations may be offered to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
