Obituary of Teddy Gus Dickson

 

Teddy Gus Dickson was born in 1933, just outside New Orleans, LA, in Picayune, Miss. He grew-up playing in the woods, creeks, swamps, bayous. He loved to hunt, fish, swim, ride horses, sing and dance. It was said that daddy, who loved practical jokes and pranks, was kicked out of the finest colleges and universities is the south. He did manage to obtain a world class education and lots of street smarts. When it came to a career, daddy did it all...Rodeo Trick Rider, Logging, Army Sergeant, Drummer in a rock band, NASA... Rocket Scientist (Mercury & Gemini Missions) Steelworker, USDA, Park Services, Realtor, Law Enforcement...But most importantly Husband and Daddy. Daddy has now gone to join momma in heaven...They were married almost 50 years before momma passed away...they have a lot to catch up on. He has left us here to carry on...share their legacy of... hospitality and charity to others (man and beast); being good stewards of the land; treating all with respect and dignity; sharing (a nod, smile, meal, a drink, a prayer...); a love all animals, and a great respect for nature...and most importantly A Love Of God and a testimony through actions...knowing that God isn't confined to four walls on Sunday mornings...God is in your child's eyes, the Gulf breeze,  puppies, kittens, baby goats, old dogs and wild ponies...God can be found on the football field, or in a prison cell...God is often found on the side of the roadside holding a sign...or at 2am after a near miss with a semi...He was preceded in death by his parents; wife – Marilyn Howell Dickson; 2 brothers – Hugh McKennon (Mickey) Dickson, Jr. & A.D. Dickson and 2 sisters – Jeanette Dickson Pearson & Ivy Dickson Ledbetter. Teddy Gus Dickson leaves 4 children - Sonjalyn Dickson Rine and her husband Russell Rine of Cedar Key, Florida, Teddy Gus Dickson Jr. and his wife Judy of Auburndale, Florida, John Tyler Dickson of Auburndale, Florida and Allie Suzanne Dickson Lowry and her husband Cal Lowry of Lakeland, Florida; 4 Sisters – Dawn Walker of Enigma, Georgia, Wanda Dickson Wimberly and her husband William Joe Wimberly, Sr. of Mineral Wells, Texas, Dr. Marie Chatham and her husband Dr. Frank Chatham of Cockeysville, Maryland and Marsha Dickson Barbour and her husband Haley Barbour of Yazoo City, Mississippi ; 7 Granddaughters – Marissa Hailie Lowry, Sunny Raynne Powell and her husband Clay Donvon Hamric, Gloria Moyer and her husband Douglas James Moyer, Alexis Ilean Dickson, Nichole Suzanne Bolton and her husband Tyler Bolton, Megan Ashley Dickson and her husband Westley Daniel and Frances Richburg and her husband Zeb Richburg;  2 Grandsons – John Howell Dickson and his wife Tiffany Mayra Dickson and Larry Dickson; 17 Great Grandchildren – John Daniel, Kiley Lynne, Westley Carson, Maci Suzanne, Tatum Alexander, Marilynn Rose, Arthur Aiden, Adaline Elizabeth, Ashley Mae, Donald Eugene, Madison Don, Ariana Daniele, Rylen Blake, Ansleigh Nicole, Maci Jayde, Lance and Bethany. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Mr. Dickson’s name to; Auburndale High School (FFA Department), 1 Bloodhound Trail, Auburndale, Florida, 33823. A gathering celebrating Teddy’s life will be held Friday, June 3rd at Ariana Beach Yacht Club, 104 Dixie Hwy, Auburndale from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Military Honors will be held at 6:15 pm.
