Obituary of Leonard James Capps

Leonard James Capps, age 63, devoted brother, father and grandfather passed away Saturday, April 16th, 2022 at Good Shepard Hospice after suffering a major stroke. Leonard was born on November 25th, 1958 and was a lifelong resident of Winter Haven, FL. He is survived by his daughter, Caitlin Capps, son-in-law Daniel Jones, his grandchildren Levi and McKenna Jones, his sisters Linda White and Pam Smiley and brother/sister-in-law Glenn and Marylin Capps. He will also be deeply missed by his nephews Quincy and Lucas Smiley and their families as well as his niece Kimberly Andreson and her family. Leonard was preceded in passing by his parents James and Alice Capps and his older sister Evelyn Glave. He was a simple man, who strove to enjoy every moment of his life. Leonard had a passion for historical camping that led him to become an active member of the Florida Frontiersmen where he met a variety of friends, fore he never met a stranger. The Alafia River Rendezvous became his main event and he spent every moment he could manage preparing for a time where he could live his life in the pre-1840’s with his grandchildren. Leonard loved nothing more than to celebrate his passion for this period in time and lifestyle with family and friends. A celebration of life ceremony will be held on May 15th at Alafia River Rendezvous Camp Ground on 1000 Old Fort Meade Rd Bartow, 33830 at 10am. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to the Florida Frontiersmen, Inc of which Leonard was an active participating member.

“He didn’t tell me how to live; he simply lived and let me watch him do it”
