Lynda Fahey

Obituary of Lynda Elizabeth Fahey

Born in Ottawa, Canada on March 13, 1949, Lynda Elizabeth Fahey was the daughter of Aurele Crate and Margaret McDonald.

She is survived by her son, Sean Fahey, daughter-in-law, Rachel Fahey,  grandchildren, Lyndon and Madeline, and brother, Paul Crate. She retired from the Bartow Police Department in 2011 after a career in law enforcement as a dispatcher. Although her occupation was never her greatest passion, she was proud of her ability to master the challenges it presented. Lynda was intensely interested in European History, particularly England and France from the sixteenth through the nineteenth centuries.  She was a staunch defender of Napoleon Bonaparte. His statue sat in her bedroom and his portrait graced the walls of multiple rooms in her home.  She received her degree in History from Florida Atlantic University. She moved to the United States from Ottawa when she was 12.  She deeply missed her home in Canada.  She asserted her Canadian heritage however she could, namely by spelling words with “ou” or “que” when applicable.  When given the opportunity to travel anywhere she wanted in the fall of 2016, she chose Ottawa. She used two days of a week long trip to visit Parliament, something she fondly remembered doing with her cousin as a child.  Lynda’s favourite colour was pink and most things in her home had at least some trace of that colour. She loved animals her entire life, especially her Siamese cats later in life.  Her last cat was Sugar, a Bluepoint Siamese she adopted in 2015. She enjoyed baking and her cheesecakes were a high demand item for everyone who knew her and had the pleasure of eating one. Lynda claimed to be shy, but she actually loved talking to people about anything and everything.  Her friends and family knew her for her dry sense of humour.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, on Friday, July 9, at 10:30 a.m. in Lakeland, Florida.
