Obituary of June Adele Westerfield

Mrs. June Adele Ruckle Westerfield, age 97 a resident of Polk City passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2021 surrounded by family. Mrs. Westerfield was born June 3, 1923 in Oak Park, Illinois to Leo Elwood and Dorothy Matilda (Jones) Ruckle. In 1944, June married Norman Hoffer and in 1948 their daughter Dawn was born, they lived in Warsaw, Indiana. After June and Norman divorced, she and Dawn moved in 1956 to Auburndale, where she raised Dawn as a single mother. June graduated from Florida Southern College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught for 23 years at Lena Vista Elementary School and Polk City Elementary School then retired. In 1969, June married Jack Westerfield and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico for about a year, our family grew to include Jacks children David and Diane. June and Jack moved back to Auburndale in 1970. Reading was her favorite thing to do, frequently visiting the Auburndale, Winter Haven and Polk City Libraries. The Orlando Magic, Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs were her basketball teams she watched faithfully. Tracy McGrady sent her a video for her 97th birthday, June was so thrilled. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and her golfing par 3 group. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents – Leo Ruckle, Dorothy Jones Ruckle and stepmom – Helen Ruckle; 1st husband – Norman Leslie Hoffer; 2nd husband – Jack Westerfield and sister – Jeanne. June is survived by her loving & devoted family, 2 daughters – Dawn (David) Beard and Diane Kibby; son – David (Kathy) Westerfield; 6 grandchildren – Amy, Jason, Nathan, Jennifer, Laurie and Rachel; 9 great grandchildren – Alex, Evan, Gala, Halcon, Janet, Sawyer, Jack, Logan and TJ. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in June Westerfield's name to any of the following charities; Cornerstone Hospice, Polk City, Winter Haven or Auburndale Libraries. There are no services scheduled for Mrs. Westerfield.
