Vida Harrell

Obituary of Vida M Harrell

Vida M. Harrell passed away on July 24, 2020, at Lifecare Center of Winter Haven.  She was born on August 30, 1922 in Zolfo Springs, Florida.  She moved to Auburndale, Florida in 1939.  She was predeceased by her husband, Cader M. Harrell, in 2003 after 62 years of marriage.  She is survived by her loving daughters, Susan (Gene) Huckabay, and Sylvia (Manuel) Fernandez.  She leaves behind her two grandchildren, Kristin Huckabay Davis and John Michael Fernandez, her three great-granddaughters Maddie Davis, Kamille Davis and Ophelia Fernandez.  She is also survived my her sister Loveda Whatley and her brother Manuel Crawford.

She was a loving mother and Nana to all her children and grandchildren.  She was a woman of faith and was a member of Lake Alfred Baptist Church.

She co-owned and ran Harrell's Hardware and Garden Center in Auburndale with her husband for 11 years.  After selling the business, Mr. and Mrs. Harrell were able to enjoy several years of travel in their motor home.  They toured much of the United States including Alaska and also toured parts of Canada.  Eventually they again used their knowledge of running a business, jointly producing handmade sling chairs, and other craft products. They travelled to art and craft shows in Florida  and other states.

Vida was a committed wife and mother and made her home a safe and happy place for her family.  She encouraged her daughters to strive for excellence and pursue their dreams.  Coming from simple beginnings, she was a great example of the success that can come from hard work, faith and determination. She was an accomplished seamstress, making many of her daughters' clothes.  She had exquisite taste, and loved beautiful shoes.  She often expressed her dismay at having to wear "old lady shoes" later in life.  She continued to take pride in her appearance and grooming right to the end of her life.  She always looked beautiful! She loved to read and was able to enjoy that pass time until near the end of her life.

Although we, her family, mourn her passing, we are thankful for the long productive and happy life she had.

She will remain in our hearts forever.
