To the Milliners. My family I am so very sorry and I feel bad writing this. Romeo or Lou Rawls to me was the nicest man and I will never forget the times together gardening and being in the pool, our talks and as the years went on the “voice” conversations. I love you all very much. My deepest and sincerest condolences. Love, Todd

Romeo was such a kind and thoughtful man. He had a warmth and positivity that was so magnetic. I only got to know him some years ago, but he and Marilyn were always such a joy to be around and so supportive! He even gave my son a nickname that always makes us smile and laugh when we call him by it. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him...

Dear Cousin Romeo,
First, I want to extend my condolences to Cousin Marilyn, Rachelle, Kendall, Brandon, and your grandchildren. Although you're gone, you are not forgotten. I have so many fond memories of you including the time when you and Marilyn came all the way to California just for my wedding. My first memory was of being a flower girl at your wedding. I had a fit when you and Marilyn drove away because I didn't want you to leave me. I was so attached to you. Ironically, my daughter's first memory is of being in the pool at your house in Long Island at my mother's wedding. I will always remember the parties at Nelson Ave. because you were enjoying yourself and the music. I constantly reminisce about the time you so generously converted a home movie from one of those parties into a video for me. I still have the video and thanks to you, I can share it with my children. I will remember Long Island and how proud you were of your new home. We would go to parties at your friend's house and I remember hearing Eddie Kendricks' "Keep on Truckin" blaring over the speakers as you and Marilyn danced like no one else was watching. To this day, I can't hear Eddie Kendricks without thinking of you. Every time I would call you on your birthday, you would always be so thankful that I remembered your birthday. I remember when I was little, we went to the hospital and my parents and grandmother took turns to go in to see you but we (my siblings and I) were not allowed to go in. I didn't understand why at the time, I just knew that I wanted to see you. I didn't have a fit this time but I did complain because I wanted to see my cousin. I found out later that it was your first transplant. I appreciate the discussions and encouragement you gave me when I become a kidney donor. You were a big part of my life and although I haven't had the opportunity to see you in recent years, I want you to know that I will always cherish my memories and I miss you. I love you Cousin Romeo.
With Love, Michelle WhipperSmith

Today I lost a great man, father, mentor, teacher, hero & the list goes on. You shaped me into the man/father that I am today so many lessons you taught me about how to navigate thru life which now has prepared me to do it now without you. Although I am sad because now we are left to mourn your loss I am grateful that the Most High chose you to be my father & able to have you in my life for 49 years. Over the last 10 years since you moved down here to Florida we transcended the typical father/son relationship & became friends, we hung out together, had drinks (several), shot pool, getting mad at the tv watching them “damn jets” lose & later on those damn Bucs smh..I will miss the phone calls we had...some way too long lol & now it will seem like they weren’t long enough but blessed to say we had them. I will try my best to continue to be the man you raised me to be which you would say is “ just being the best version of yourself ” You ran a good race you really actually passed the baton a long time ago but now it’s time for us to finish strong because the marathon does truly continue!! Love you always Pops your son Kendall

"So nice, the future is bright" - Romeo, Circa Nov 2015.
I send my condolences to the family. Cousin Romeo always met us with a smile and warm hugs; positivity was his main mode of operation. Light always surrounded him... we thank Him for the way he lived his life, full of purpose, and so gracefully. His influence and legacy will live on as we all carry the memory of dearly beloved cousin Romeo.
I know he is watching over us all along with Grandma Sylvia and cousin Kevin and will guide us along the way throughout the rest of our days.
Love,

Tribute
WE offer our deepest condolences and prayers of comfort to you Marilyn and the rest of your family on the passing of one of our favorite cousins, Romeo Milliner.
Romeo was always so pleasant, charming and encouraging. His kind-hearted, comforting spirit was such a blessing to us and others. WE recall when our eldest son Kirschan ,accepted a job offer with Chase Bank in Garden City, New York and needed to relocate from St. Thomas to New York, he asked if we had any family in the N.Y. area. We immediately thought of cousin Romeo and contacted him about the matter.
Romeo & Marilyn welcomed Kirschan into their home until he got settled and always stayed in touch and looked out for him and his family while he was living in New York. He said he looked up to Romeo and Marilyn as his second mom and dad while he lived in New York. For that we will always be grateful. We will also cherish the fond memories of Romeo at family gatherings when he visited St. Thomas and Jost Van Dyke or when we saw him on the U.S .mainland. More recently, we will miss his solo worship in songs, during the Milliner's Family Prayer Meetings via Zoom. Marilyn, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, siblings, extended family members and friends, as we mourn the loss of Romeo, let us take comfort in knowing that because Romeo loved and trusted in God, he is now present with the Lord in Paradise!!

Thank you Poppy, I would have never had the strength of my surgery if it weren't for you and Mema coming up to support me. I felt nervous and scared because I was afraid of being put to sleep. Even if it was for only two hours. With my family there along my side, I felt safe. The pain wasn't during the surgery as you already know. When I was asleep, I felt nothing. When I awoke, I felt nothing. It wasn't until the day after that I felt something. I felt happy that it was successful, and you being proud of me for the strength I displayed, I know that you want me to be successful and that you want me not to let go of that strength. Thank you for everything you've done for me, Thank you for everything you have done for my family. I know our time was short even though I wish it were longer, but we made the best of it. I'm happy I knew you.
Love you,
Your Great Grandson, Chunchie
